Fujifilm Prescale Film
Fujifilm operates in many areas, including photography, optics, office and medical electronics, biotechnology and chemicals. Fujifilm provide Techni Measure with a unique film called Prescale, which is the only product in the world capable of measuring pressure. This film allows users to easily visualise pressure and pressure distribution that previously could not be observed.

Prescale Pressure Measurement Film
The only film in the world that can measure pressure. When pressure is applied, the film turns red, and the intensity of the colour varies depending on the amount of pressure exerted. To accommodate a wide range of pressures, from 0.006 to 300 MPa, Fujifilm offers nine different types of Prescale.
Structure of Prescale
There are two types of Prescale: the two-sheet type and the mono-sheet type. The two-sheet type is composed of two polyester bases, A-Film and C-Film. A-Film is coated with a micro-encapsulated colour-forming material, and a C-Film, which is coated with a colour-developing material. The A-Film and C-Film must be positioned with the coated sides facing each other.
Mono-sheet Prescale Film: The colour-developing material is coated on a polyester base, with the micro-encapsulated colour-forming material layered on top.
How Prescale works
The microcapsules in the colour-forming layer are broken by pressure, and the colourless dye is absorbed into the developer, causing a chemical reaction to produce a red colour. The microcapsules containing the colour-forming material are adjusted to varying sizes and strengths, and are coated uniformly, producing a colour density that corresponds to the amount of pressure.
Simply place Prescale film between any two surfaces which come into contact. Varying colours of red patches will instantly appear, revealing the pressure distribution between the surfaces. The intensity of the red colours of the Prescale film is related to the amount of pressure applied to it; the more intense the colour, the greater the pressure.
There are nine different film types available, ranging from 0.006 to 300 MPa (0.87~7.3 to 43,500 psi):
- 5LW Ultra Extreme Low
- 4LW Extreme Low
- LLLW Ultra Super Low
- LLW Super Low
- LW Low
- MW Medium (two-sheet)
- MS Medium (mono-sheet)
- HS High
- HHS Super High
